Adopt Finlay

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Trust is not built in a day. The trust of a dog is a delicate plant. It can take days, weeks, months or even years to grow. But once it gradually becomes firm, it is the greatest gift a dog can give us humans. If it is not abused, it is a bond between both that lasts a whole lifetime. Finlay had no trust in humans for a long time. He could not properly learn trust during his crucial socialization phase as a young puppy. What is not learned in early years is twice as hard later. But at this animal shelter on Aegina, dogs like Finlay are given the time they need to get used to humans. Finlay has been a guest at the animal shelter for many years. In 2015, he was found on the beach along with his mother and his ten siblings. Almost all of his family members have already been living in a family for years, and now Finlay wants to take the step too. Our Finlay is a gentle, very loving and cautious dog. At the animal shelter, his familiar environment with the people he knows, he slowly comes out of his shell and clearly enjoys cuddles and affection. When he is with other dogs, Finlay is completely at ease. At the animal shelter, he has found a special friend, Dido, with whom he is closely connected due to their shared fate. They share a kennel, a doghouse, and snuggle close together at night. With her, Finlay feels safe and strong and is not easily disturbed. Finlay needs a understanding family that is willing to spend time and patience until he also gains trust in his new people. This will certainly not happen overnight, but even small progress is a proof of love, and one day it will be possible to say: Finlay has arrived! His humans should have experience with shy dogs, and a calm, friendly only dog will make Finlay's adaptation much easier. The hectic life in the city would definitely overwhelm our Finlay. However, in a rural environment with wide fields and forests, he will flourish and grow into a magnificent plant. The work in animal protection is a "wish concert," but we may still dream and never lose hope. Our absolute heart's desire would be if we did not have to separate Finlay and Dido anymore and if the two treasures could find a home together. Will our wish and the wish of Finlay and Dido come true?

About Finlay

What life with Finlay looks like

Finlay is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Finlay, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Finlay?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Finlay on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Finlay if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Finlay already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Finlay isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Finlay and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
