Age: 10.05.2025 Breed: Jack Russell Sex: Male Neutered: Yes Origin: Sardinia Current location: Sardinia Shoulder height: 31 cm Weight: 7 kg Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Mediterranean check: After entry Illnesses: None known Good with males: Yes Good with females: Yes Good with cats: Not known Good with children: Yes, from school age Mario, a one-year-old Jack Russell, was surrendered to the animal shelter by his owner, who no longer had any interest in the young male. This is probably better for Mario too, as he was kept in a pigsty and his food was simply thrown into a filthy enclosure. A shelter is not an ideal place for such a young dog, and we would like to change this for him as quickly as possible. Jack Russells are typically lively and small powerhouses. Prospective new owners should be aware that a dog this small needs both mental and physical stimulation and is not a lap dog. If you feel up to this challenge, you will surely gain a funny and loving companion. Update from 16.10.2026: If you can give Mario a loving home, we would be happy to hear from you. About Mario

What life with Mario looks like

Mario is a medium-sized young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at NiemandsHunde in Kerpen.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mario, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mario?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. NiemandsHunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mario on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mario if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — NiemandsHunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Mario already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mario isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with NiemandsHunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mario and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
