Fritz

European Shorthair · Male

Fritz - a young tabby tomcat with white markings. I am only 1.5 years old and had to fend for myself on the streets for quite some time. It was quite tough, without humans and constantly searching for food. But eventually, a kind-hearted person took a closer look and helped me. So I ended up at the animal shelter. That didn't make it any better - prison against freedom. Miau! Well, I already admit it: that was a fib... here I always have it warm and I am always fed. I don't really need to be afraid anymore, nobody does anything to me. And yet I am not ready for cuddling yet. I dismiss every attempt by my stroking aunts with a snort! On the other hand, I am already looking for contact, because somehow I vaguely remember that I must have found it great as a little kitten. But my trust in humans has really been affected by my time on the streets. And that of course reduces my chances of ever getting out here again... Mijaujaujau! In addition, a slightly elevated corona titer was found in me. I must have had contact with the feline coronavirus on the street and formed antibodies. Well, I'll try it anyway and hereby apply for a home with you. There I should definitely be allowed to go out again after an acclimatization. Children are not my favorite humans right now and I would like you to give me the time to arrive that I need to regain trust. I would also like a few nice cuddle dens so that I can quickly retreat anywhere in the house if I want to. That would be great - and helps me to be everywhere without being seen. Initially, I'm probably not the easiest cat. But "easy" can be anyone... Big meow and hopefully see you soon! Your Fritz

DE·Show original

About Fritz

What life with Fritz looks like

Fritz is a large adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel in Kiel.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Fritz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Fritz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Fritz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Fritz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Fritz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Fritz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Uhlenkrog Kiel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Fritz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
