George

Mixed Breed · Male

George is a mixed-breed male dog, neutered, born around January 2018, who was abandoned as an adult dog in front of a pet store. He is currently being cared for by our Serbian veterinarian, Dr. Djura. Dr. Djura took George and brought him to the Serbian animal shelter Svilos, where he is waiting for a loving family. George is a friendly and affectionate dog who is open to people. He enjoys being petted and especially loves treats. The other dogs in the shelter currently stress him out, causing him to bark at the fence. However, at the exercise yard, he becomes increasingly calmer and enjoys the attention of his humans. George is not a particularly playful dog and therefore does not need constant action or activity. What is more important to him is a quiet daily routine, human closeness, and a relaxed environment. George is selective with other dogs and chooses his dog friends himself. He likes some of his fellow dogs in the shelter very much, while others are not so much. It is not known how George reacts to cats or other animals. Unfortunately, George tested positive for heartworms and is being treated with tablets and spot-on drops in the shelter. The chances of complete recovery are good with continued treatment. Please indicate "George" as the purpose of use when using the funds.

HU·Show original

About George

What life with George looks like

George is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting George, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about George?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw George on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt George if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is George already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if George isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know George and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
