Georgia

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

We rescued the breeding sows Georgia and Sonja from slaughter in October 2022. Depending on their size, these poor animals are inseminated as early as six months old. After three months, three weeks, and three days, they give birth to about 16 piglets twice a year. They are then locked in a piglet protection cage for five weeks, where they cannot even turn around. After four weeks, the piglets are abruptly weaned and separated from their mothers. The sow mothers endure terrible milk ejection pain and are then injected with a hormone (PMSG), which causes them to become receptive again after a few days. The hormone is extracted from the blood of pregnant horse mares, the production of which is also associated with great animal suffering. Then the cycle begins again. If a sow does not produce enough live piglets, she is sorted out for the slaughterhouse immediately after weaning her last litter. Georgia was born on October 28, 2018, she gave birth to 105 piglets and was sorted out in the fall of 2022. But she was lucky and was able to move in with us on October 5, 2022, instead of ending up in the slaughterhouse: She is now allowed to spend beautiful years on a soft straw bed in sunlight together with the other currently 15 rescued sow mothers. The joie de vivre of these exploited animals is indescribable. Would you like to support Georgia's newfound life with a sponsorship?

DE·Show original

About Georgia

What life with Georgia looks like

Georgia is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Georgia far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

Paperwork, vet checks and transport rules differ by species and by country. Ask the shelter what is included and what you will need to arrange before you commit.

Frequently asked

Adopting Georgia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Georgia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Georgia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Georgia if I live in another country?
Sometimes. Whether a animal can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.
Is Georgia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
What a animal comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. directly what is included and what Georgia still needs.
What happens if Georgia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Georgia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
