Ginger

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Large Dog Seeks Great Happiness The smart Ginger had everything a beloved family dog could wish for. A loving primary caregiver, a big house with a garden, and on trips he could be by his humans' side. Yet happiness is often fragile and unstable. It can leave you at any time. Ginger's human became seriously ill, and unfortunately no one in the family can take Ginger in. So this loyal soul is searching for a new home. Ginger is a great guy. He has obviously learned a lot. He walks perfectly on a leash, shows himself as an enthusiastic car rider, and is always content and friendly. Overall, he gives a very balanced and happy impression. He does not take advantage of his size. He is neither reckless nor rough. The term "gentle giant" fits him very well. He has lived in a family for years. This is a big advantage, as the adaptation to a new family should work well. Ginger gets along very well with other dogs. For his new family, Ginger would certainly be a great addition. He brings a lot of joy and love. He could imagine a home as a single or second dog. It would be important for him to be able to accompany his humans, whom he feels very attracted to, often. Ginger has the potential to become a companion who accompanies his family through thick and thin. The animals are described as they behave in the animal shelter or foster home. This behavior is not shown immediately upon arrival. Some may initially react with fear to the new situation. Animals from the animal protection have all had a past that was mostly unpleasant or cruel. This past cannot be shaken off overnight. They need time to settle in and build trust. Please be patient and give your animal the necessary time!

About Ginger

What life with Ginger looks like

Ginger is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ginger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ginger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ginger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ginger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ginger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ginger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aegean Dogs e.V. / FAZA Aegina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ginger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
