Adopt GINNY

Female · Puppy · 6 months

GINNY, a sad and lonely soul... Taken from the streets at just a few months old, she was a small puppy, wandering and alone. She was picked up to be saved and entered a dog shelter. But not just any decent one, this shelter is a place where when they clean the floors, everything stays wet, including the dogs, who are often in large numbers in a single box and have to settle for resting on the floor since they have a broken ramp and don't have it to use. When we saw the photos of her monotonous life, which she spent without ever receiving a small bit of attention, we couldn't resist. GINNY had to get out of there as soon as possible. We are putting up the photos so that all readers can understand what our work consists of. Today, GINNY has followed a recovery program, she is loving, sweet, gentle, very good, and quiet. She still has some fears because she doesn't know much about the world, but we consider her available for adoption. She is already here. She is healthy, sterilized, vaccinated, and weighs around 25 kg. Medium to large in size, she is compatible with all dogs, stays rather in her own space because she lacks the courage to step forward. We are therefore looking for people with patience, love, and a desire to help GINNY live a dignified life. We are here to support you. No children, but older children can interact with GINNY, too many noises might scare her. She needs a quiet environment. Ginny wears a harness, goes on a leash, and doesn't show any problems at the vet. In the car, she needs to be loaded, and she doesn't like traveling much, but with time, she will learn and accept it better.

About GINNY

What life with GINNY looks like

GINNY is a medium-sized puppy/kitten dog waiting at Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani in Lugano (TI).

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting GINNY, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about GINNY?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw GINNY on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt GINNY if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is GINNY already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if GINNY isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Via di Fuga – Associazione Adozione Cani early rather than rehoming privately; they know GINNY and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
