Adopt Maïko

Border Collie · Male · Adult · 5 years

Maïko, is a very particular dog, who lives with his demons from the past. Indeed, at the age of 4 months, he was hit by a car. This physical and psychological trauma has made him a very sensitive dog. Sudden noises, sudden and fast movements plunge him back into fear and flight. Although he has made many progress since he arrived here, Maïko remains a shy and anxious dog. It is essential that he finds a calm home where he can relax. He is a quiet dog, enjoying long walks away from urban hustle. Once he trusts, he shows very affectionate and playful towards his reference person. The presence of another balanced and well-adjusted dog will be an asset. When he is surprised or in a stressful moment, Maïko may bite unknown people, which is why he is muzzled during off-leash walks. Time must be devoted to his development and management of his anxiety. A gentle, patient and understanding person will be his ideal human. Profile we are looking for: If you are interested (in adopting)

About Maïko

What life with Maïko looks like

Maïko is a adult border collie dog waiting at SPA Le Locle in Le Locle.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maïko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maïko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA Le Locle handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maïko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maïko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA Le Locle will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maïko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maïko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA Le Locle early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maïko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
