Adopt Gitti

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 11 years

Our Gitti was finally rehomed to a new home in Fuchshain after two years of waiting, where she can enjoy a cozy life with her new owner...finally! —————————————————————————————————– I am female, spayed and born around 2011. I have been waiting for a new home since mid-2013. This is what my caretakers say about me: Gitti arrived with her puppy at our facility, found in a garden area in Leipzig. The puppy found a home, but Gitti has not yet. Initially, she withdrew, although it did not seem so at the beginning of the quarantine. After an appropriate adjustment period, Gitti recovered and now enjoys her cuddle time. Usually, she immediately lies down and relaxes while being petted, enjoying her round belly. Gitti would be happy if she could regularly receive cuddle sessions from her new owners in her own home. She is looking for a rather quiet household, preferably with other animals, though it is not strictly necessary. Similarly, she would enjoy having access to the outdoors if possible, but she would also feel comfortable living in an apartment. Who will give this lovely, initially shy cat a chance and grant her her own home?. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Gitti

What life with Gitti looks like

Gitti is a medium-sized senior mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gitti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gitti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gitti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gitti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gitti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gitti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gitti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
