Godiva

Mastiff · Female · Senior · 9 years

Origin Country: Hungary We have a DNA breed determination. The pretty Godiva was reported on August 11, 2025, wandering alone slightly outside Kecskemét by the Menhely. A shelter worker made their way there and thankfully managed to catch Godiva and bring them to safety. Many dangers await a stray dog outside. A chain was around their neck, which in turn had another chain. It is assumed that Godiva had to live a miserable and lonely life as a chained dog. As expected, Godiva was not microchipped, and no one missed this wonderful female dog. Thankfully, we can say. We cannot change their past, but their future is very dear to us. We cross our fingers that Godiva will soon be allowed to exchange the Menhely for a home of their own and not spend the cold winter in a cage, but for the first time in their life, in warmth and in the circle of their people. Godiva is a loving and friendly female dog that enjoys when someone gives her some time and attention and cuddles are something she very much enjoys, as if she has a lot of catch-up to do and doesn't want to miss out again. Godiva needs a lot of love and has a lot of love to give. On the leash, she already runs quite well, she just needs to firm it up a bit, and practice makes perfect, and the missing "dog ABC skills" will be understood with loving and patient guidance. It is often the case with older people that the demands on physical activity are not as high, but the affectionate attention is enjoyed even more, even though Godiva finally wants to learn a bit more about the big world and is curious about it, because she is far from being old iron yet. With great joy, Godiva participates in the mentor program and enjoys this time very much. The mentors have also embraced her and love her wonderful nature. Godiva gets along well with her fellow animals. We urgently seek enthusiastic dog lovers, especially for a senior dog, who will give Godiva a chance. Godiva should not have to live in a cage but have a soft dog bed to call their own, plenty of cuddles and snuggles, beautiful walks through the forest and meadows, and simply be able to enjoy their life, knowing they are loved and cared for, probably for the first time in their life. On September 25, 2025, a voluntary, Hungarian helper writes: "Godiva came to the animal shelter in August 2025. Thanks to her dedicated mentor, she was allowed to experience her very first walk on the mentor day. The mentor reported that Godiva is a loving, friendly, and warm female dog. On the leash, she ran beautifully, enjoyed the affection, and was very happy during the walk. Godiva is attentive, interested, and grateful. She made her way actively and enthusiastically, looking forward to all the impressions, the scents, and the new experiences. Godiva is a wonderful, older female dog who deserves a little more love. Who has a heart for Godiva? Her tumor on the side is still being further clarified by a veterinarian and, if possible, surgically removed, an update will follow. Medical update from February 5, 2026: The tumor was fortunately benign. According to histopathology, it was a hemangioma. Since Godiva is a staff mix, you should first inquire about the conditions for dog owners in your community if you are interested. On October 24, 2025, Godiva is 51 cm and weighs 23.7 kg. Godiva is travel-ready. We thank Isabel Riesco very warmly on behalf of Godiva for taking over the sponsorship.

About Godiva

What life with Godiva looks like

Godiva is a large senior mastiff dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Godiva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Godiva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Godiva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Godiva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Godiva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Godiva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Godiva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
