Adopt Graf Poldi

Male · Young · 1 year

Native Country: Hungary Location: Hungary – animal shelter Örkeny Special: To be known only to experienced people, Graf Poldi was sighted wandering around the village's edge by residents on multiple occasions. One morning, he was found in the garden of a kind, elderly lady. Unfortunately, the young male dog couldn't stay there and came to the animal shelter in Örkeny. Since he was likely on his own for some time, he wasn't entirely happy with his freedom being taken away. We hope he can leave the animal shelter and find a suitable home very soon. Graf Poldi is a sturdy male dog, likely an Alabai-mixed breed, who shows a curious and active personality at the shelter. He has a great bond with his trusted people and loves cuddles and attention. With strangers, he is initially skeptical; he needs time to build trust, and that must be given to him. He barks at strangers, how should he know they don't mean him harm. He must be clearly and sovereignly led by his future owners. Therefore, we are looking for people with experience who are familiar with the character of an Owtscharka and can handle it. With the right people by his side and proper socialization, Poldi will make a great companion. With the heart of a true adventurer, he can sometimes struggle to contain his inner drive to explore new things. It brings him joy to explore the world. His ability to jump over fences up to 2m high can lead to challenges. We are not only looking for the right family but also a home with an escape-proof yard. However, we are sure: once he has the chance to have a real trusted person by his side and form a bond with his people, he won't want to leave his place. Alone in the kennel, he is simply incredibly sad and seeks the company of his known caregivers. With his fellow animals, the decision is made by their sympathy, so we see him more as a single dog. Poldi will be rehomed exclusively to people with an appropriate property in a rural area. Children and other animals should not live in the household. This dog is currently still in Hungary!. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

About Graf Poldi

What life with Graf Poldi looks like

Graf Poldi is a young adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Graf Poldi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Graf Poldi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Graf Poldi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Graf Poldi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Graf Poldi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Graf Poldi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Graf Poldi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
