Greta

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Greta is a beautiful Podenco who needs a loving home. She was discarded shortly after the start of the hunting season, when Podencos are used for hunting. For these dogs, if they are lucky enough to find a temporary place in a shelter, it is definitely the better option. Greta was fortunate to be seen by a young woman as she walked alone beside the train tracks, searching for something to eat. She had probably been without food for some time, as the mouse is quite thin. But Greta has handled all of this very well. She is full of life and is always on the lookout for someone to cuddle and snuggle with. She is described as a darling by everyone: loving, charming and very people-oriented, as can be seen very well in the video. Greta is looking for active people for her future, who will do a lot with her and challenge and promote her mentally and physically. She will learn everything quickly if she sees a point in it, as Podencos are very smart dogs. Creativity and a bit of patience are required. Podis are very active dogs outside, but they like to be couch potatoes at home, especially in bad weather. Even though Greta was classified as "hunting-unfit", she is still a hunting dog and a certain hunting instinct must always be expected. She may always need a leash, but that will become clear over time. If Greta has a fenced garden in her new home where she can run around or relax in the sun... a happy dog heart would be the reward. © 2006-2026 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

DE·Show original

© 2006-2026 by Tierschutzverein Europa e.V. - All rights reserved

About Greta

What life with Greta looks like

Greta is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Greta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Greta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Greta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Greta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Greta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Greta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Greta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
