Grosse Achatschnecken

Unknown · Young · 3 years

Our Achatschnecken were given up to the animal shelter due to overburdening. Now they are with us and waiting for a new home. Achatschnecken are very social animals and prefer to live in larger groups. Therefore, we only rehome them as a group (minimum 3 individuals), unless they can join fellow animals. They are currently between 5 and 10cm in size and are very active in the evenings and at night. They enjoy eating various greenery daily. Many snails are now waiting for a new home with snail enthusiasts.

About Grosse Achatschnecken

What life with Grosse Achatschnecken looks like

Grosse Achatschnecken is a large young adult animal waiting at Zürcher Tierschutz in Zürich.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Grosse Achatschnecken far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

Note from the shelter: Must be kept in groups of minimum 3 snails, active at night

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Grosse Achatschnecken, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Grosse Achatschnecken?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Zürcher Tierschutz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Grosse Achatschnecken on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Grosse Achatschnecken if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Zürcher Tierschutz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Grosse Achatschnecken already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Grosse Achatschnecken isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Zürcher Tierschutz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Grosse Achatschnecken and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
