Gulliver

Dachshund · Male · Adult · 5 years

Gulliver is a presumably 2021-born, neutered dachshund male who was abandoned and found refuge at the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. He is an incredibly playful, lively young dog who loves playing with balls or stuffed animals, but he guards them and doesn't want to give them up. He is initially uncertain and suspicious of strangers and may snap in certain situations. Gulliver needs time to settle in and very clear rules and boundaries during the adjustment phase. The confident young man absolutely needs an owner with leadership skills in dog handling. In the right hands, he will certainly develop into a lovable household pet with patient, consistent training. He is intelligent, shows a willingness to learn and can be motivated well with treats, but a confident leadership must be ensured. He is lively, runs around happily and will love long walks in nature. Gulliver is not suitable for families with children. He gets along well with female dogs, although he also shows food jealousy with them. He doesn't need other male dogs to be happy, nor do cats count among his friends. He wants loving, active and safe people who are willing to train with him calmly and patiently, and already have a lot of experience in dog handling.

HU·Show original

About Gulliver

What life with Gulliver looks like

Gulliver is a small adult dachshund dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gulliver, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gulliver?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gulliver on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gulliver if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Gulliver already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gulliver isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gulliver and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
