Gustav

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Profile: Age: Born around 2013 Gender: male neutered: yes Character: very insecure Size: approx. 47 cm In shelter since: February 2021 Special: due to his high age, we urgently need a home (emergency placement) Hello out there! I am Gustav and I am looking for special people. Especially patient, especially loving, and especially understanding. As you can see in the photos, I am overwhelmed and anxious. I have retreated into my snail house and cannot manage to leave it on my own. Who can show me how wonderful dog life is? I hope to find my family quickly and to embark on the journey to Germany. Don't be angry with me if I don't greet you with great enthusiasm. It seems I will rather take small puppy steps and I need a pack that takes me by the paw with understanding. But who knows, maybe I am also an egg surprise dog and warm up quickly in the right environment? If you can handle both scenarios and can't resist my doggy eyes, please get in touch. Life is too short to spend it rolled up in a corner! If you are interested in Gustav, please fill out our application form or write us an email or a message on Facebook. Gustav is ready to travel and can travel to Germany with the next transport. Our dogs travel legally with Traces. Traces refers to the database system that monitors the entire animal transport within the EU. The dogs travel vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and dewormed, and have an EU passport. Additionally, a rapid test for the following Mediterranean diseases is conducted for dogs over 12 months of age before travel arrangements: Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Dirofilariasis, and leishmaniasis. The sponsorship for Gustav has been taken over by Marion J., who thus ensures a full food bowl. Many thanks on behalf of the dogs!

About Gustav

What life with Gustav looks like

Gustav is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Seelen für Seelchen e.V. in Alfter.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gustav, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gustav?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Seelen für Seelchen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gustav on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gustav if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Seelen für Seelchen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gustav already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gustav isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Seelen für Seelchen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gustav and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
