Hagrid

Chihuahua · Male · Young · 1 year

Hagrid is a young boy with lots to learn! He isn’t housetrained just yet but he’s a super foodie boy, so a few tasty treats will help him to pick up all sorts of training! He travels well in the car and he walks well on his lead, making him an ideal companion for quiet, sniffy adventures. Hagrid settles fairly well by himself and once he’s had time to get used to his new home, he could be left home alone for up to 4 hours. Hagrid is a true sweetheart and we know that with a little love and patience, he’ll make a wonderful addition to his forever home. This charming lad is Hagrid, our 1 year old Chihuahua X Frenchie! He’s a little unsure about the big wide world and would love a patient family to help him build his confidence. Because he feels nervous about meeting new people, Hagrid would like it if any children at home were at least older primary school aged and happy to take things at his pace. The rule of thumb with this little guy is to go nice and slow – once Hagrid has learned that he can trust you not to overwhelm him, he’ll be your best friend in no time. Hagrid would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as he didn’t get along with another dog he used to live with. He’s doing a great job taking calm on-lead walks with small calm dogs, and he’d love to continue working on his doggy social skills with his new owners. We’re excited to see Hagrid thriving with his forever family!

About Hagrid

What life with Hagrid looks like

Hagrid is a large young adult chihuahua dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hagrid, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hagrid?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hagrid on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hagrid if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Hagrid already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hagrid isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hagrid and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
