I am a very lively piggy with a brown and a blue eye, and one of a total of 18 pig mamas. We found a home at Schutzengel für Tiere in 2021. In 2023, alone in Germany, around 43.8 million pigs were slaughtered. A gruesome number. However, there is an downward trend in meat consumption and –production in Germany. In 2022, 752.5 million "useful animals" were slaughtered for food production, a decrease of 5.5 million animals compared to 2021. Meat production is also decreasing in the EU. In 2022, it was at 41.3 million tons of beef, pork, mutton, and poultry. Compared to the previous year, that is 3.4% less. Worldwide, however, meat consumption is unfortunately increasing, with the total amount of meat produced increasing by 100 million tons compared to 2000, and in 2023, it was around 363.9 million tons. If pigs are lucky enough to be saved from slaughter, monthly pension costs of around 80 € must be covered by sponsorships. In March 2023, I was spared the slaughterhouse and instead went to the foster home Erflinghausen of Schutzengel für Tiere in the Hochsauerland and enjoy my life in a nice straw stable. Ich bin eine sehr lebensfrohe Schweinedame mit einem braunen und einem blauen Auge und eine von insgesamt 18 Schweinemamas, die seit 2021 ein Zuhause bei Schutzengel für Tiere gefunden haben. 2023 wurden allein in Deutschland rund 43,8 Millionen Schweine geschlachtet. Eine gruselige Zahl. Allerdings gibt es in Deutschland einen Abwärtstrend bei Fleischverzehr und –produktion. 2022 wurden 752,5 Millionen „Nutztiere“ für die Lebensmittelproduktion geschlachtet, immerhin 5,5 Millionen Tiere weniger als 2021. Auch EU-weit sinkt die Fleischproduktion. Im Jahr 2022 lag sie bei 41,3 Millionen Tonnen Rind-, Schweine-, Schaf- und Vogelfleisch. Im Vergleich zum Vorjahr sind das 3,4 % weniger. Weltweit betrachtet steigt der Fleischkonsum allerdings leider an, im Vergleich zum Jahr 2000 vergrößerte sich die insgesamt produzierte Menge an Fleisch um 100 Millionen Tonnen und betrug 2023 rund 363,9 Millionen Tonnen. Wenn Schweine das Glück haben, vor der Schlachtung gerettet zu werden, fallen monatlich rund 80 € Pensionskosten an, die durch Patenschaften finanziert werden müssen. Ich durfte im März 2023 statt zum Schlachthof in die Pflegestelle Erflinghausen von Schutzengel für Tiere im Hochsauerland fahren und genieße mein Leben in einem schönen Strohstall.
