Hazel

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 6 years

The Coburger Fallow Kid, born around 2015, came from a flock in Lower Saxony and was seized by the veterinary office Diepholz in April 2020 together with her son Haru as well as about 100 other sheep. The herd was severely neglected, with irregular feeding and deworming, and the animals were emaciated. That so-called "production animals" are taken away from unreliable keepers is, of course, to be welcomed, as often the veterinary offices are too late and unfortunately not at all active from the perspective of animal welfare. But through the seizure, "production animals" unfortunately usually also escape the slaughter. They are handed over to another operation that fattens them up until they are again "marketable." But Hazel and her son Haru had great luck: In our foster home Rehden, there was just room for a few sheep, and caretaker Hartmut had become aware of the seized herd. The dealer who took them over willingly gave eight sheep and a nanny goat with her two kids to Schutzengel für Tiere at the slaughter price. He sheared the sheep for free and brought them to our foster home. We keep finding out that "livestock dealers" are happy to use us to do a little good work once in a while. But it is always horrifying to have to choose animals for rescue in such stables, knowing that all the others must go to the slaughterhouse. Now fill out the sponsorship declaration.

What life with Hazel looks like

Hazel is a medium-sized adult mixed breed animal waiting at Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. in Drolshagen.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Hazel far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

Adopting Hazel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hazel?

Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hazel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.

Can I adopt Hazel if I live in another country?

Sometimes. Whether a animal can move between countries depends on the species and the rules in both countries, and some species need permits or have restrictions. Ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. what paperwork and transport they require, and check the import rules of your country before you commit.

Is Hazel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?

What a animal comes with (vet checks, vaccinations, identification, paperwork) varies by shelter and species. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. directly what is included and what Hazel still needs.

What happens if Hazel isn't the right fit?

Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schutzengel für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hazel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.

Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?

TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
