Helga

European Shorthair · Female · Adult · 5 years

Hello, my name is Helga. I ended up at the animal shelter because I used to follow people around. They thought I had no home, so they brought me here. I have a tattoo number in one ear, but unfortunately it’s no longer legible. As a result, we haven’t been able to find out who I belong to. I’ve already been at the shelter for several weeks now, so from now on I’m looking for a new home. My caregivers say I’m a bit special— for example, I don’t like other cats, so I’d prefer to be an only princess. You’re welcome to pet me, but only if I feel like it and for as long as I want. When I’ve had enough, I’ll make that very clear to you. I’m very confident and self-assured, so you shouldn’t have small children living with you. I need access to the outdoors, so you should live far away from busy roads. Please first obtain a written consent for pet ownership from your landlord, and then send an email to us. Once we receive that, nothing will stand in the way of arranging a meet-and-greet appointment.

About Helga

What life with Helga looks like

Helga is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Helga, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Helga?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Helga on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Helga if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Helga already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Helga isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Helga and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
