Adopt Henry

Mixed Breed Cat · Male

Our Henry is an older German Shepherd male dog who prefers to live life on his own terms. While Henry generally likes people and enjoys cuddling, everything is only good as long as you don't ask anything of him. When he doesn't want to comply, he makes it very clear with the use of his teeth. However, one should not be intimidated by this and must respond with consistent and firm action. Due to this, he is familiar with wearing a muzzle and has no issues with it. Henry loves going for walks and is very easy-going during these times. He walks nicely on the leash and, with good handling, doesn't pull. Encounters with other dogs or walking in groups are also not a problem for him. However, resources like food and toys are very important to Henry, and he will defend them. It is advisable to seek the help of a knowledgeable trainer to work on this issue. Henry enjoys having his own space and is willing to defend it to some extent. If there is a strong bond between the dog and the person, however, he does not show this behavior and is happy when his people come to him. During visits, it is advisable to be cautious and to secure him with a muzzle. Our Henry is a strong-willed dog who knows what he wants, so we are looking for people who can find the fine line between giving him his freedom and providing consistent leadership. Even though he is at an age where not everything needs to function perfectly, he still needs to learn to accept certain things. For Henry, due to his age, we are looking for a single-story home without children, cats, or small animals. If you are interested, we look forward to a detailed email with your phone number.

About Henry

What life with Henry looks like

Henry is a adult mixed breed cat dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Henry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Henry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Henry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Henry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Henry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Henry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Henry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
