Adopt Safira

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Adult · 4 years

Safira is a lively female dog who enjoys going for walks, is active, but also knows how to appreciate and enjoy quiet moments with her humans. In her previous life, she has not learned much about how to live as a dog in a stable home with a reliable caretaker. She came quite lost, alone in the all at us. We give her stability and she is currently learning the meaning of the human on the leash at the animal shelter. However, the future owners still have the task of clearly and kindly explaining life to her, building a healthy human-dog relationship, and providing her with structure. Safira is a sensitive female dog who was neglected in her previous home and has no experience with some situations; for example, she reacts defensively to strangers, which is limited to barking and threatening. In the current condition analysis, she has shown no signs of wanting to bite. If she is led clearly and rehomed with the understanding that the human is in charge, she can also accept strangers near her if they do not pressure her. At dog encounters, she also reacts with barking. We have not yet been able to see her with other dogs in off-leash areas, as we first had to get to know Safira ourselves and needed several weeks to get her painful ear infection under control, so we did not want to introduce her to other dogs. So far, we have only seen her with Milo, who comes from the same household. She mostly reacts annoyed, defensive, and sometimes overwhelmed to his controlling and mischievous behavior in off-leash areas. In a room and in calm, they get along, but can also do without each other. On walks, she is quite pleasant, but has also already learned the advantages of orienting herself towards the human. If you know how, Safira can be well guided and is happy when she does not have to be in the front line/think. Safira will not be rehomed into a household with cats and children.

About Safira

What life with Safira looks like

Safira is a adult mixed breed cat dog waiting at BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Safira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Safira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Safira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Safira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Safira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Safira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Elisabethenhof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Safira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
