Henry

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Henry is a four-year-old, neutered mixed-breed male dog looking for a suitable home with people who meet him with patience, understanding, and clear leadership. He currently resides in the animal shelter and initially shows himself to be rather reserved and cautious around new people and unfamiliar situations. Henry needs some time to build trust and open up to his surroundings. Once he has understood that he can rely on his people, he develops into an increasingly pleasant and loyal companion. The sensitive male dog observes his environment attentively and approaches new impressions at his own pace. Hectic, constant chaos, or a very changeable environment do not suit his nature. Therefore, we wish for people for Henry who are willing to provide him with the necessary security and to gently introduce him to new experiences. At the same time, he requires consistent, but always loving guidance that gives him orientation and helps him navigate everyday life. Clear rules, reliability, and a calm manner are important prerequisites for him to continue developing and to be able to unfold his potential. Henry brings good prerequisites with him but still requires further guidance and support in living with his people. Therefore, we consider attending a good dog training class or being accompanied by a qualified dog trainer to be very worthwhile. Joint training can not only help to reduce existing insecurities and improve communication between human and dog but also strengthen the bond and mutual trust. It is particularly important to have a non-violent, fair, and based-on-positive-motivation training approach. For Henry, we are looking for people who enjoy working with a dog and give him the necessary time for his further development.

DE·Show original

About Henry

What life with Henry looks like

Henry is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Henry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Henry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Henry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Henry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Henry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Henry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Henry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
