Herbie

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Five-year-old Mushroom is a big, grey bundle of love who truly lives up to his name - he is incredibly "mushy" and thrives on affection. After being with his current family since he was a puppy, he is now looking for a very special "pack" to call his own. He weighs approximately 37kg and is in the Hampshire area. Mushroom’s absolute favorite thing in the world is human contact; he will literally "fall into you" for strokes and fuss. Once he knows you are part of his inner circle, he trusts you completely and will happily snuggle on the sofa for hours. He even has adorable "puppy-like" moments where he jumps around with excitement when he’s happy. He is a dream in the house - fully house-trained, relaxed during the workday, and a clever lad who knows his basic commands. He is even an excellent communicator; he’ll throw his water bowl when it’s empty to let you know he's thirsty! Because Mushroom is so devoted to his humans, he is looking for a specific, quiet home environment where he can be his best self. He is looking for a peaceful, low-traffic or semi-rural location where he won't encounter many strangers, runners, or other dogs on his walks. Since he prefers to keep all the love for himself, he must be the only pet in the home. He will also need a private, securely-fenced garden where he can relax without being distracted by neighbours or outside noises. While he is patient with the children he currently lives with, he can get very "zoned in" on outside triggers like birds or passing dogs. For this reason, he needs a calm home with adults or dog-savvy older teenagers who can recognise his body language and give him space when he is alerted.

About Herbie

What life with Herbie looks like

Herbie is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at O.U.R. Dog Foundation.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herbie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herbie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O.U.R. Dog Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herbie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herbie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O.U.R. Dog Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herbie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herbie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O.U.R. Dog Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herbie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
