Herman

Male · Young · 1 year

Some young dogs especially need someone who can teach them how the world works. Herman is one such dog. Herman is a young male just one year old, with a remarkable background. His father is a Tunisian Aidi—a independent livestock-guarding breed—and his mother is likely a cross between a Golden Retriever and a German Shepherd. This unusual combination of breeds makes him intelligent, social, and eager to learn, yet he also craves clear guidance and an owner who dares to set direction. Through a foundation in northern Netherlands, Herman eventually ended up with us. It quickly became apparent that he needed more support than was available at the time. Herman was overwhelmed and received little guidance, causing him to increasingly take matters into his own hands. This ultimately led to several incidents, including a serious confrontation with his father in the kennel. Within a pack, we often see family members clash when there’s insufficient clarity and structure. With us, we’re getting to know Herman better and better. Behind his youthful enthusiasm lies a cheerful, social teenager who is still very much in development. He’s curious, energetic, and eager to discover how the world works. Like many adolescent dogs, he regularly tests boundaries—not because he wants to be difficult, but because he’s still learning where those boundaries lie and how to navigate them. We guide Herman daily in making the right choices and are seeing him take wonderful steps forward in this process. The more clarity, predictability, and calmness he experiences, the better he can relax and the more his lovely character begins to shine through. Herman is a young dog with enormous potential who needs someone above all else to help him grow into the stable dog that already resides within him. For Herman, we’re looking for people who are confident and enjoy guiding a young dog. People who understand that a dog with his background needs clear boundaries, consistent guidance, and plenty of rest to process all the impressions he encounters. We’re convinced that with the right people by his side, Herman will grow into a stable, loyal, and fantastic companion. Herman is zo'n hond. About Herman

What life with Herman looks like

Herman is a young adult dog waiting at Stichting Animals Faith in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Herman, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Herman?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Animals Faith handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Herman on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Herman if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Animals Faith will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Herman already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Herman isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Animals Faith early rather than rehoming privately; they know Herman and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
