Hinnerk

Rottweiler · Male · Young · 3 years

Hinnerk came to us recently as a precaution. He is a great guy and a real buddy type. He loves to cuddle and always tries to please his people. Hinnerk follows all basic commands and learns with great enthusiasm. According to the information from his previous owners, he no longer accepted the man in the house after puberty. Hinnerk is, Rotti-typical, not a dog who needs many different people around him. He tends to choose trusted people and then shield them. In the new home, very clear rules must be established from the start and consistently enforced. In households with multiple people, everyone must work equally on the relationship with Hinnerk. Hinnerk unfortunately shows increased prey drive behavior. He reacts strongly to all forms of movement and makes no difference between human, dog, car, or bicycle. He is strongly driven by this and is hard to calm down. At the animal shelter, we are currently working intensively on the prey drive issue. This behavior must be taken very seriously, as there is a great danger to the environment. Hinnerk naturally wears a muzzle and accepts it without issue. The leash handling works, depending on external stimuli, sometimes better and sometimes worse. In a quiet environment, Hinnerk can orient well to his people. When it comes to fellow animals, the imposing male dog is a real ruffian who acts first and thinks later. During the test with a Hundedummy, he would have seriously damaged it. We wish for Hinnerk a home in the countryside. His people should definitely bring prior experience with difficult molossoid dogs and be willing to face a challenge. Other animals or children should not live in the household.

About Hinnerk

What life with Hinnerk looks like

Hinnerk is a large young adult rottweiler dog waiting at BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hinnerk, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hinnerk?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hinnerk on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hinnerk if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hinnerk already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hinnerk isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with BMT Tierheim Arche Noah Stuhr early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hinnerk and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
