Adopt Roy

Rottweiler · Male

I am Roy. I was secured for animal welfare reasons; in my previous home, I was unfortunately severely mistreated. This has left its mark and made me an insecure, traumatized dog. Since then, I have developed a great mistrust of people and generally find them rather scary. Therefore, I will need a lot of time to learn to trust and thaw out. I know basic commands and am house-trained. With my reference people, I am loving, playful, seek partial physical contact, and sometimes like to cuddle – but I do not want to be touched just like that. I am food-motivated and eager to learn, wear my muzzle well, and am generally compatible with female dogs depending on their affinities. Rattery-wise, I have a very low escalation threshold. I do not like being touched. If I feel pressured, I will go forward. But only then will I display appropriate behavior – I do not attack without reason. I also pester on the leash, fixate on people and dogs while on walks. I also strongly fixate on toys, which should be avoided. Calming toys (like Kongs or lick mats, etc.) are not a problem. Riding in the car still needs to be tested, as does being left alone. I have a Cherry Eye and am currently in medical training to better manage it. Additionally, I have age-related joint problems and receive pain medication for them. Furthermore, I am a food allergy sufferer and eat special food that I tolerate well at the animal shelter. I wish for a breed-experienced home that can read my body language well. My people should give me time to settle in and not pressure me. For me, a low-stress, quiet home is important – preferably on the outskirts of town or in the countryside. I should not have to climb stairs. Children should not live in the household. A and O are structure, clear leadership, and good management in the home environment for me. Will there be a home for me? I wish for it so much.

About Roy

What life with Roy looks like

Roy is a large adult rottweiler dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
