Honey

Podenco · Female · Puppy · 2 months

Paws Patas Input June 4, 2026: Sometimes, a story begins in the most heartbreakingly sad way imaginable. Such is the story of these six little puppies. Barely born, they were left like old trash next to a garbage bin. In the scorching heat, they stood exposed under the blazing sun. No mother dog nearby, no shelter, no water—no chance at all of surviving on their own. The tiny pups had been completely abandoned to their fate. But fortunately, fate had something else in store for them. A passerby heard soft whimpering coming from among the trash. Concerned, he went to take a look. There he found six helpless puppies who desperately needed help. An alarm was immediately raised, and the pups were picked up as quickly as possible. For one of the little ones, help came at exactly the right moment. The puppy was severely dehydrated and had to be taken to the vet immediately. The situation was critical, but thanks to swift medical care and lots of love, even this brave little one managed to pull through. After that, all six puppies were placed in foster homes. And that’s where the real work began. Because they were still so young, they had to be bottle-fed around the clock. Caregivers stood ready day and night. Every two hours, they received feedings—even in the middle of the night. It was intense, exhausting, and time-consuming, but every sleepless night was worth it. Now, four weeks later, it’s almost unbelievable how much difference there is. Where once six vulnerable babies were fighting for their lives, now six cheerful, healthy, and full-of-life puppies are running around. They eat on their own, discover something new every day, and are even starting to cautiously use their voices. Their little barks reveal that they’re gaining more and more confidence. They play enthusiastically with each other, romp with toys, and visibly enjoy the life they’d almost never gotten. Of the six puppies, one is a male and five are females. All of them are beautiful dogs with enchanting blue eyes. Slowly but surely, their individual personalities will begin to develop—though they’re still far too young to say right now who’ll become the adventurer, the cuddler, or the rascal of the bunch. What we do know is that each of them has been given a second chance—a chance made possible only by the attentive passerby, the veterinarian, and the wonderful foster homes that have opened their hearts and homes to these little ones. Meet Honey, Peanut, Marshmallow, Jelly Bean, Nugget, and Toffee. Named after the sweetest snacks and candies, but above all, six little miracles who’ve made it through. Of course, these treasures are still far too young to be placed in permanent homes or to travel. They need plenty of time yet to keep growing, learning, and developing into healthy, stable dogs. However, from now on, you can already reserve them for their future homes. That way, their future owners will have the chance to follow their adventure from the very beginning and look forward to the moment when they’re ready to take the big step into their own families. We hope that for each of them, that special little basket will soon be waiting—a home filled with love, safety, and warmth; a place where they’ll never again have to fight for their lives but can simply be puppies. Honey, Peanut, Marshmallow, Jelly Bean, Nugget, and Toffee started their lives with bad luck. But thanks to the people who didn’t just walk past them, they’ve been given a second chance—and what a fantastic job they’re doing making the most of it!

About Honey

What life with Honey looks like

Honey is a small puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Honey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Honey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Honey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Honey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Honey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Honey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Honey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
