Hope &#8211

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 15 months

Hope is a beautiful 15-month-old Husky girl (as of October 2024), but the past year hasn't been kind to the now cheerful and inquisitive little fish. Hope came to the attention of animal welfare workers when they witnessed her owner trying to dispose of a litter of puppies in a trash can. The neglected woman lived with another female dog in her car and was completely overwhelmed by the babies. Hope was tethered to a tire; in her life with the heavily drug-dependent owner, she likely saw little else. Fortunately, the young woman was willing to surrender all the dogs without police intervention—though unfortunately, she cannot be helped by our friends—but all the four-legged friends are now in safety. Hope has been taken in by Refugio El Azar. At first, the emaciated female dog showed various ticks that seemed influenced by light and noise. Naturally, epilepsy was suspected, but as Hope warmed up, these "episodes" became less frequent until they disappeared. The animal welfare workers believe that Hope developed these anomalies due to stress triggered by the conditions at her previous home, as well as a burst of energy and the decompression of a completely demotivated working dog. Now, Hope is a happy teenager. She loves playing with her four-legged friends and gets along well with all her roommates because she has quickly learned to communicate clearly and accept rules within the pack. She enjoys playing in and out of the water, developing impressive muscles and a gleaming coat that enhances her steel-blue eyes. The vet is very pleased with the development of the proud Husky lady and confirms her good health. Now, the friendly and eager-to-learn girl waits for a family to explain the world to her. Hope's future owners should be active, enjoy being outdoors, and be prepared for the fact that Huskies are very social and communicative dogs (perhaps you also like to sing, then you can practice in duet?). We would like to see that applicants already have some experience with dogs—breed knowledge would be fantastic, but can also be acquired with Hope's help. Attending a corresponding dog training class that specializes in northern breeds would be recommended in this case. Hope is a sunbeam and a raw diamond searching for her match made in heaven. After Hope's experiences, she especially needs reliability and the promise of finally becoming part of a real family.

DE·Show original

About Hope &#8211

What life with Hope &#8211 looks like

Hope &#8211 is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hope &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hope &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hope &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hope &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hope &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hope &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hope &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
