Humpy

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 3 years

* Size approximately 30 cm at the shoulder and 11 kg, comparable to a (standard) Dachshund. Humpy looks somewhat like a (mixed breed) Basset Hound, but is much smaller and lighter. ** for an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with young children. Personality: Humpy is an energetic and enthusiastic small dog with a big heart for his people. He is very affectionate and likes to be close to his trusted people - preferably all day long. He likes to curl up on your lap and has a high cuddle factor. He has a lot of energy and a playful character, and enjoys walking and being busy. At the same time, he can sometimes be a bit restless indoors and finds it difficult to always find his rest. In the evening, when it is quiet, this works better. Humpy is dominant and strongly attached to his people. He can be a bit uncertain in new situations, but with the support of his owner this usually passes quickly. Due to his visual impairment (blindness), he finds some stimuli more exciting, especially outdoors. Therefore, he needs a quiet, stable environment and good guidance.

About Humpy

What life with Humpy looks like

Humpy is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Humpy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Humpy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Humpy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Humpy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Humpy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Humpy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Humpy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
