adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Huxley has found a home! His story: Huxley came into the world with his sister Daria in a private home in Romania. The owner had his female dog spayed as part of one of our spay campaigns, and now gives us the opportunity to place these sweet dwarfs in their dream homes. Huxley is now around 4 months old and is looking for his own new home! He is a beautiful and lovable male dog who wins hearts with his loyal gaze and very interesting fur pattern. Huxley is super-friendly and loves people, as well as cats and other dogs. He also likes children, though he shows a bit of respect to big men. A good cuddle partner is also welcome when he's on the couch. The handsome fellow wishes for an active family that has fun with him, cuddles with him, and shows him the world. Huxley is small in size (4kg, 30cm) and is used to life in a house. He is a learner male dog who likes to try new things and works with positive reinforcement. He loves to run and is incredibly fast. Huxley has learned to sleep in a crate at night and is, except when a small mishap occurs, house-trained. He lives with 2 dogs and a cat and can already stay alone in the pack. He still needs to learn the whole dog ABC and is also facing puberty. During this time, hormones go wild and they test boundaries, sometimes forgetting what they've already learned. This can be a challenging time for both human and dog, but with lots of love, patience, and empathy, the time will pass quickly. Huxley would be happy to work on his head and attend a positively working dog training class to further develop his skills and get through the pubertal phase. Huxley is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He brings an EU pet passport and can be visited after a positive assessment. Who has a dog bed free and is looking for a super cute little guy? He can be visited upon agreement. Many thanks to Clarissa and Sven! You named Huxley! As of 10.01.

About Huxley

What life with Huxley looks like

Huxley is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Huxley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Huxley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Huxley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Huxley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Huxley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Huxley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Huxley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
