Idefix

Maltese · Male · Young · 2 years

Idefix was found. The small male was in a catastrophic state of care. He was so severely matted all over his body that we had to completely shave him. His face didn't want to let us near, so he looks more like a Schnauzer. Idefix is somewhat suspicious of strangers and keeps his distance. If he knows a person, he shows himself friendly. He becomes insecure again when something doesn't feel right. In these situations, Idefix would also snap. Therefore, he is looking for a household without children. Idefix also doesn't seem to have had many interactions with his own kind. In encounters with other dogs, he is also insecure and tries to avoid and flee the situation. Apparently, Idefix hasn't been able to experience much in his previous life. This is also clearly evident during walks. Idefix is extremely excited and restless during walks. Idefix is looking for owners who already have experience in dealing with dogs. A calm and confident second dog in his new home would certainly be a good role model for Idefix. His new owners must be clear that a lot of educational work is still to come for them in the first time.

DE·Show original

About Idefix

What life with Idefix looks like

Idefix is a young adult maltese dog waiting at Tierheim Braunschweig in Braunschweig.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Idefix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Idefix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Braunschweig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Idefix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Idefix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Braunschweig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Idefix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Idefix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Braunschweig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Idefix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
