India

Mixed Breed · Female

India is a mix of Border Collie and Bretone, with a roundabout blend of intelligence, attention, and a love for exercise. She is a friendly dog that enjoys learning, observing, and interacting with her environment. India is eager for new experiences and a varied daily routine, so she may not be the best fit for a lazy Sunday. She is approachable and enjoys people who can channel her energy in a positive way. India is social and easy-going with other dogs, and quickly wins over children with her affectionate nature. Initially, she may be a bit reserved when meeting new people, but once she feels comfortable, her warm and loving side shines through. She enjoys close contact, attention, and long, affectionate cuddles. Her breed characteristics are evident: India is intelligent, active, and has a strong prey drive. However, she walks well on a leash, making this aspect manageable with clear guidance and attentive owners. She is looking for a home where walks, activities, and small learning tasks are part of the daily routine. A sofa is also a must, as even an athletic dog needs reliable rest periods. India currently lives with an older couple who adopted her three years ago. They are very attached to her and have given her a loving home. However, due to health issues, they can no longer provide her with the activity and stimulation she needs. They have asked Arca Sevilla for help in finding a new home for her, a decision that is very difficult for them. India is not being given up because of a lack of affection or attachment, but because her owners are responsible and want to meet her needs. Her greatest wish is to live a life that is appropriate for her breed and to have everything she needs to be a happy dog: enough exercise, shared experiences, mental stimulation, loving guidance, security, and lots of affection. India wants her next chapter to be long-lasting and reliable. She is looking for active people who enjoy being outdoors and working with a smart dog. India does not need to fulfill a daily performance schedule, but she wants to be physically and mentally engaged in a meaningful way. She enjoys games, training, outings, and varied walks, as well as quiet time in a familiar environment. Patience, clear guidance, and a friendly approach will help her build confidence quickly. A securely fenced garden would be welcome, but it does not replace the need for shared activity or daily connection with her people. India is a wonderful companion for a family or individuals who can give her time, understanding, and a permanent place in their daily lives. If you give her space to settle in, you will soon experience a dog that is eager to learn, happy, and very affectionate. She has the best qualities for an active home and will probably remind her new owners regularly that exercise, recovery, and generous portions of tasty treats are important items on her to-do list.

DE·Show original

About India

What life with India looks like

India is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting India, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about India?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw India on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt India if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is India already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if India isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know India and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
