Izzy

Whippet · Female · Puppy · 5 months

Izzy is looking for someone who is willing to take things slowly, build trust and let her find her feet in her own time. She would benefit from a secure garden and someone with short leaving hours to help her settle in. She is a super sweet girl and once she is comfortable with you, she loves her cuddles. If you are ready to introduce a new pup into your home, and you are willing to continue with training, then Izzy might be the girl for you. Adopters will receive full support from Dogstust with ongoing training. If you think she is the girl for you, then don't forget to 'favourite' her when submitting your application. Meet Izzy! Izzy is a 5 month old Whippet crossbreed. Izzy has not had much exposure in her early days, meaning she can find life a little overwhelming. She is a very nervous girl who will need patient, understanding and committed home to help her learn the world isn't such a scary place. She will need to be the only dog in the home as she struggles around other dogs and becomes reactive when she sees them. Due to this, she will need to be walked in quiet areas and adopters would need to be keen to continue training with reactivity and confidence. She could potentially live with older dog-savvy children who can give her the space and patience she needs. She will require some ongoing puppy training, although she was previously house and crate trained.

About Izzy

What life with Izzy looks like

Izzy is a puppy whippet dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Izzy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Izzy?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Izzy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Izzy if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Izzy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Izzy isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Izzy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
