Adopt Jack

Unknown

Here we would like to introduce you to Jack – a young, proud Greek herding dog-mix, who embodies heart and character. Jack is a dog who loves closeness and affection, and accompanies his people with full devotion. He enjoys long cuddling sessions just as much as shared adventures in nature: hikes, walks, or simply exploring new environments bring him great joy and strengthen the bond with his people. Jack shows great vigilance towards strangers and instinctively protects his home. This territorial behavior is typical for his breed and shows how attentive and loyal he is. With other dogs, he gets along well by sympathy – especially female fellow animals have won his heart and often charm him. His daily routine is already well-structured: Jack knows how to be alone for a few hours, is house-trained, and masters the basic commands. Nevertheless, he relies on consistent, loving guidance. Whoever offers him clear rules and secure structures will quickly notice how eager to learn, intelligent, and loyal Jack can be. Besides his vigilant side, Jack also has a very cozy, cuddly side: he is a true couch potato who likes to stay a few extra minutes in bed in the morning before he is ready to go outside. This charming laziness shows how much he enjoys the closeness of his people and values peace. Jack also requires special food, as he is prone to struvite stones. With the right food, however, he gets along well, ensuring his health and well-being. Unfortunately, Jack has been waiting in the animal shelter since 2022 for a loving home. For such a long time, he has dreamed of his own place where he can feel safe, secure, and truly at home. A home that offers him patience, understanding, and love – exactly what he deserves. We wish for Jack people with experience with herding dogs, who understand his breed-specific characteristics and bring patience, empathy, and consistency. Jack is large and strong – his new home should therefore be ground-level, with enough space to offer him security and freedom to move. Whoever gives Jack the time he needs will gain a loyal companion who will give his heart once he has gained trust. With the right guidance, Jack can become a dog who accompanies his people through the day with love, loyalty, and vigilant attentiveness – a dog who values connection and security and gives back so much of it.

About Jack

What life with Jack looks like

Jack is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Solingen in Solingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Solingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Solingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Solingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
