Jack

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Our partners in Stintino are the rescuers in need - whether it's animals losing their homes or cats and dogs who were abandoned or had an accident. And again and again, dogs end up with them who were seized by the authorities. Just like in the case of the lovable Jack. When we first saw Jack at Paola's enclosure in late 2025 and heard his story, we were deeply shaken, because Jack has a very sad life behind him: He was confined in a tiny pen - barely 2 square meters - since puppyhood and was also tied to a chain. (We have seen the pictures; they were hard to bear.) Food was simply thrown over the fence, and the enclosure was rarely cleaned. What must people think who deliberately subject an animal to such torment? And how can neighbors watch and tolerate such cruelty for years? Why does it take ten years for someone to take action and inform the authorities? We would have liked to immediately presented Jack on our website. But with seizures, it can take a long time until the animals are cleared for adoption. We were therefore very happy that a decision was made relatively quickly in Jack's case, and we can now present Jack here. During our project tour in mid-April 2026, the team members who traveled with us also got to know Jack. And all were surprised that Jack has preserved his lovable nature despite his wretched life, is friendly and attentive. Jack is full of energy, is happy when he can run free with other dogs, and enjoys the affection of the people who now take care of him. Jack is now a senior, and we don't want to waste any more precious time, but want to bring him to Germany as quickly as possible so that he can find his dream home here. Does the fate of Jack touch your heart? Would you like to take him into your family, let him participate in all family activities, and give him a few more happy years? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption brings a lot of joy but also a lot of work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide support.

About Jack

What life with Jack looks like

Jack is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
