Jack

Male · Senior · 14 years

Jack Russel Terrier mixed breed, unneutered male dog, born 2012 | Height: 26 cm | Weight: 7 kg | Children: no | Cats: unknown | Dogs: unknown, vaccinated | microchipped, adoptable This animal can be adopted if there is a suitable place and after sufficient getting to know each other. Jack came to the animal shelter as an official pick-up, as he unfortunately remained unattended in the apartment after his owner's serious fall and lost his home, as she had to move to a care facility afterwards. Jack is now searching for a new good place where he can spend his golden years. He is a Jack Russel Terrier mixed breed with many quirks. He can be a very lovable dog once you get to know him better, but he is often more of a loner and wants people to respect his space. His mobility is causing him some problems, so he is on pain medication. Jack hopes for a senior-friendly place without children where his quirks will be accepted.

DE·Show original

About Jack

What life with Jack looks like

Jack is a senior cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
