Jake

Poodle · Male · Adult · 5 years

Meet sweet Jake! Jake arrived at Battersea with six of his siblings from another rescue. Unfortunately, we have no information about their previous history. Jake, like all of his siblings, has found the move to our busy London site quite challenging especially in those first few days. Jake is very worried and has shown to be the most scared of the lot, lacking in life experience with the outside world. He is currently kennelled with two of his siblings, who he may be placed. Jake has been quite worried outside, sticking with his bonded handler but has slowly been building in confidence and exploring. Like all of his siblings Jake is struggling with walking on lead and is currently carried in and out of his kennel for outside time. Jake has been able to make friends with his bonded handlers and will settle onto their laps and accept a fuss, but this has taken some time to get to this stage and can still be very unsure. Jake is looking for a dedicated family who are happy to commit the time needed to help him settle into a new environment and build his confidence. He would suit owners with some previous experience of anxious dogs who are confident in reading dog body language and advocating for his needs. Due to his worried nature, he would also benefit from living with a steady role model dog, with his siblings or another resident dog. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Jake, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Jake

What life with Jake looks like

Jake is a adult poodle dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jake, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jake?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jake on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jake if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jake already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jake isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jake and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
