Adopt Jambo

Rottweiler · Male · Senior · 12 years

Jambo originally came to the animal shelter as a found dog at six months old. Due to his defensive behavior towards people, it became clear that he must have had very bad experiences with humans and likely grew up very isolated. So, even as a young dog, he would not allow physical examinations and it was very difficult for him to trust. Currently, with a brief interruption, Jambo has been with us for his entire life. During this time, he has made great progress, forming good relationships and trust with several people (male/female). Jambo is cheerful, playful, eager to learn, and very well-behaved. He loves going for walks, travels well in the car, and can be left alone for extended periods without a problem. He regularly participates in social walks with his foster parents and enjoys the outings outside the animal shelter. However, he remains wary of strangers and does not want to be touched or harassed. It will take him a long time to accept new people into his circle of friends, but it is possible. At the animal shelter, he is not compatible with other dogs, but he can pass by other dogs completely relaxed. He does not like cats at all. For Jambo, we are looking for dog-experienced individuals without children in a quiet living situation who are willing to take the time to get to know him and have no problem with the fact that Jambo is a voluntary leash-wearer.

About Jambo

What life with Jambo looks like

Jambo is a large senior rottweiler dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Reutlingen in Reutlingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jambo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jambo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Reutlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jambo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jambo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Reutlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jambo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jambo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Reutlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jambo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
