Jana

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Jana has been living with a family in IJsselstein since July 2026. They met her and she was the dog of their dreams, so adoption was a done deal. Jana is doing great and we actually consider this a rehoming through no fault of her own. She is social with other dogs, cats and loves children. She has chronic bronchitis, for which she receives medication including prednisone, which may have some side effects that are now affecting the family. She has some destructive tendencies and when she is alone, she likes to rummage through the trash cans and look for edible things. We think there are alternatives to this medication, which could greatly reduce this. The family is also expecting a third child soon. They don't see themselves investing in her further, even though she is such a lovely dog. As mentioned, she is a super social lady, loves everyone, is a cuddle bug, can be alone for a while (well-timed), walks well on a leash, is not watchful, is gentle, loyal and eager to learn. We think she is almost a perfect dog. We are only looking for someone who wants to search with her for the right medication, which could reduce her destructive tendencies a bit. Would you like to apply for sweet Jana?

About Jana

What life with Jana looks like

Jana is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Stichting Dogs on a Journey in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Dogs on a Journey handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting Dogs on a Journey will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Jana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Dogs on a Journey early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
