Jazz

Podenco · Male · Young · 3 years

Jazz came to the shelter two years ago as a cute puppy and was immediately adopted by a couple. Unfortunately, when the couple separated, he was returned to the shelter. Jazz is an affectionate, gentle, obedient, social, and incredibly sweet dog. He enjoys cuddles and closeness, but also likes to explore the garden on his own. He allows his leash or harness to be put on and medical procedures to be performed, but he doesn't like it when his paws are touched or grabbed. Jazz listens well to commands. When corrected for pulling on the leash, he responds immediately. He sits down as soon as he is asked, even when already on a leash for a walk. He is social with people and enjoys physical contact. If someone sits on the patio, he likes to come to that person to sit on their lap and get attention, petting, and kisses. Initially, he can be a bit shy due to his previous rejection, but once he realizes he can trust someone, he shows his charming character fully. Jazz is also social with other dogs. He currently lives with two active but somewhat uncertain males without problems. Previously, he lived with very active, playful, and busy dogs, also without problems. He also gets along well with females.

About Jazz

What life with Jazz looks like

Jazz is a young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jazz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jazz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jazz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jazz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jazz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jazz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jazz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
