Adopt Jelka

Female · Young · 3 years

Origin Country: Hungary The charming Jelka was found wandering alone in the community of Pilis on April 11, 2025, and reported to the animal shelter. Where Jelka came from and why she was traveling alone will remain a mystery, as she was neither microchipped nor reported missing. For us, as always, it’s hard to understand, but perhaps it’s better that way. For Jelka to have people who take good care of her and protect her would be better. Our fingers are crossed that Jelka will soon find a new, loving home. Jelka is a friendly, loving, agile, and very people-loving female dog. As she is so sociable, she enjoys every bit of attention and affection, and Jelka would love to have more of it. Jelka is active and sometimes a bit stormy, but she has never learned to be otherwise, and she’s happy that someone is now taking care of her and giving her time and affection. She wants to go on adventures with her people, learn new things, and lead a happy dog life. On the leash, Jelka already runs quite well, of course, finer points are still to be improved, and as she is a clever female dog, she will quickly understand the dog ABC and it will be fun to practice and train with her. She is part of the mentor program, and the mentors have already won her hearts. Jelka gets along well with her fellow animals and lives in a 2-person household with Harold. (As of July 28, 2025) For our beloved Jelka, we are looking for outgoing and dog-experienced people who can give Jelke clear and loving guidance and make her feel like part of their family forever. She wants to be loved, occupied, challenged, and nurtured, to spend many beautiful hours with her people, to attend dog training classes, to enjoy long walks, to have a full family connection, and to be spoiled with lots of cuddles. Whom can Jelka give her heart to? As Jelka is a Staff-Mix female dog, you will need to check with your local authority about their dog ownership permits if you are interested in her. On July 28, 2025, a volunteer Hungarian helper wrote: "Jelka came to the animal shelter in April 2025. In July, she participated in a mentor walk where she showed herself to be active, attentive, and social. At the beginning of the walk, she was curious and energetic, but later she ran calmly and on a leash. She responds well to being spoken to, seeks contact with people, and enjoys cuddles. In the company of other dogs, she behaves friendly and unobtrusive. Jelka is an attached female dog with a balanced nature who wishes for a loving home." Jelka is travel-ready. Walks well on a leash.

About Jelka

What life with Jelka looks like

Jelka is a young adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jelka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jelka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jelka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jelka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jelka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jelka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jelka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
