Jerky

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Jerky has found his home! His story: Jerky is a young male dog who, despite his past, is impressive with an open, friendly nature. He was found on the outskirts of a village—seriously weakened, barely able to walk. But Jerky fought—and won. He shows himself as a cheerful, people-oriented dog. Visually, he likely has a Husky-mixed breed and could almost pass as a wolf, with an estimated shoulder height of 55 to 60 centimeters, making him one of the larger dogs when he currently weighs only about twelve kilograms. But with his two different eye colors, he is definitely something special. The approximately two-year-old male dog now enjoys cuddles in the shelter and shows no fearful behavior. He approaches people without hesitation. How he gets along with other dogs and cats, we unfortunately do not know. Otherwise, he appears uncomplicated and extremely well-behaved. Jerky likely carries the Husky genes and can therefore be independent and stubborn in a familiar environment. The breed typically has a high energy drive. Therefore, an active home would be ideal for him. Anyone who decides to take him should not be a couch potato. He probably hasn't lived in an apartment yet and must learn to cope with being alone with his new people step by step. How he interacts with other dogs is currently unknown. With lots of time, patience, love, and movement, he will surely become the ideal companion and lifelong friend. Jerky deserves his second chance. All that's missing now is his human who will accompany him—into a life that's so much more than just survival. Have you fallen in love with the Nordic Jerky? He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. For travel arrangements, he brings an EU pet passport and could be a great fit for a foster home. A big thank you to Roxana M., who gave Jerky a name and identity. Status: 13.09.

Stand: 13.09.2025

About Jerky

What life with Jerky looks like

Jerky is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jerky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jerky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jerky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jerky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jerky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jerky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jerky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
