Jerry

German Shepherd · Male · Puppy · 5 months

Jerry - a young dog looking for safety and trust 🐾 Jerry is a curious and playful young dog who wants to discover the world while still feeling insecure in many situations. Like many young dogs, he needs to learn what life outside his previous environment has to offer. In unfamiliar situations and with new environmental stimuli, Jerry is still a bit uncertain and needs people who can stand by him calmly and patiently. Jerry is currently gaining his first experiences in dog life at the shelter. He is diligently practicing walking on a leash and gradually learning to adapt to new situations. We want to give him the time he needs, because trust and security cannot be forced. With patient guidance and a reliable environment, Jerry will certainly make many more progress. Jerry is straightforward and friendly when dealing with other dogs. He has no problems with his own kind. We have not yet been able to test how he behaves towards cats. We are looking for people for Jerry who already have experience with dogs and know that a young, still insecure dog needs above all: peace, understanding and orientation. A rather quiet home would be ideal for him, where he can arrive and get to know the world at his own pace. Jerry brings the best prerequisites - he is young, friendly and full of curiosity. Now he just needs the right people to show him that he can trust them and to enable him to find his way into a relaxed dog life with patience and security.

DE·Show original

About Jerry

What life with Jerry looks like

Jerry is a puppy/kitten german shepherd dog waiting at Tierheim Ahlen in Ahlen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jerry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jerry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ahlen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jerry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jerry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ahlen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jerry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jerry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ahlen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jerry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
