Jip

Podenco · Male · Young · 1 year

Jip and Janneke, two "ordinary" but oh so sweet Podenco dogs. Without understanding what has happened to them. First reduced to the utility item of a hunter: hunger, no fun life, only misery. They were not interested in hunting, their heart was not in it, so they were discarded, sent out into the wide world, completely left to their own devices. Today they are two social, gentle dogs. Jip is a bit reserved at first, but once you know and trust him, you see a completely different dog. They want to cooperate, trust, live. They have a lot to learn, a lot to discover, a lot to experience, but they have a life ahead of them, and we grant them that with all our hearts. Day after day, we are offered Podenco's and Galgo's. Messages keep coming, cries for help pile up. Every shelter is overcrowded, far beyond its limits. We do what we can, often more than that, and we continue to hope that this mentality will ever change, even though today we are painfully far from where it should be.

NL·Show original

About Jip

What life with Jip looks like

Jip is a young adult podenco dog waiting at ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) in Spain.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ACE / SHIN (Animal Care Espana) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
