adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process John has found a permanent home! His story: 01833 Dürröhrsdorf-Dittersbach. Dream Dog John is ready to start a new life! He waits in his foster family to be visited and is full of energy. John is simply wonderful! This is how his foster mom describes him 🙂 John is a very affectionate dog who loves to cuddle. He is a great companion for all activities and is always attentive, wanting to please his people and do everything right. Physical contact is very important to him. He likes to be close to his trusted people and loves to cuddle on the couch. John seeks eye contact and is open and eager to learn. He would love to be physically and mentally challenged. He would certainly enjoy dog sports like agility or mantrailing. At around 2.5 years old, he is in the best dog years and has already passed puberty. He is very long-legged and has a athletic build and is about 55-57cm tall. House-trained, he also walks well on a leash. He is also happy with a shorter walk and then lies down on the dog bed or right next to the female dog in the foster home on the sofa. John is very compatible with his fellow animals and is more insecure in new situations. Therefore, we would wish for him to live in a home where there is already a dog he can orient himself to and cuddle with. Originally from Zalau, Romania, John had already been with a family that no longer wanted him. He is not to blame, unfortunately, many dogs end up in public shelters where unfortunately animals are still killed. The daughter of the family thankfully called our helpers and so John was able to avoid this fate at the last minute. He could then be taken in by our private shelter. We wish John a loving home with active people in a more rural area. John is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He brings his EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive match. Are you in love with the handsome male dogs and would like to give John a home? Many thanks to Martina! You have given John his name and thus his identity! A big thank you also goes to Vicky G., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for John.

About John

What life with John looks like

John is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting John, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about John?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw John on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt John if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is John already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if John isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know John and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
