All Cats Josh Drucken Published: May 16, 2026 Breed: Longhair-Mix Age: un. Gender: male neutered: yes color: black husbandry: so far apartment, outdoor possible Josh is - along with Kratzbert, Kastiel, Aisha, and Fipsy - one of the 33 rescued cats from the Marburg area. He lived under terrible conditions with at least 32 other fellow animals in an apartment and was secured by the veterinary authority and the local animal welfare association. We took 5 cats from there into our care. One can see the trauma Josh has experienced. He has not yet been able to build trust with humans in the short time. This is no wonder, given that the environment here is naturally stressful due to dog barking, visitors, etc. In a quiet environment with one or at most two primary caregiver(s) and social contact with fellow cats, he will surely be able to regain trust. Time and patience are immensely important in such cases. Therefore, you understand if we cannot provide a real character description at the moment, as they are still trapped in their world of fear. These cats all lived in suitable for apartment living conditions. They have not yet experienced outdoor life. They can be rehomed in suitable for apartment living, but whoever can offer outdoor access in a very quiet living situation after trust has been built up is of course welcome to do so. Of course, absolute trust must have been established beforehand. In a suitable for apartment living situation, at least a secured balcony should be available for use, so that fresh air, sunshine, and scents can be experienced. The new home should be really quiet. No small children, dogs, or many visitors. Those who go the way with Josh and perhaps his friends and show him that the past is past and that a beautiful future can be looked forward to are welcome. Kennen also bislang keinen Freigang. About Josh

What life with Josh looks like

Josh is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Josh, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Josh?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Josh on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Josh if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Josh already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Josh isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Josh and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
