Adopt Józek

Mixed Breed · Male

Józek came to the shelter for the second time. Due to personal and health issues of the caregiver, we had to take him back to the animal shelter after a year spent in a home. He originally arrived with us at the beginning of 2024. He is a large dog resembling a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler. He has a friendly attitude towards people, but he sometimes causes conflicts with other dogs, mainly in the kennel, that is, in a limited space. On walks, his behavior is significantly reduced and it is not strongly noticeable. He is a young dog trained to live in a house. We know he did not live in the city, so it would be worth considering socialization in urban conditions. Since returning to the animal shelter, he has shown behaviors associated with reactivity, so we are seeking a quick adoption for Józek, as we do not want a situation where he loses the skills already acquired in a home environment or finds it harder to return to them. He shows no signs of illness, rather he does not pull on the leash. Having some information about the way the dog functioned in his previous home, we assume he would be most comfortable in a house with a yard, however we are able to support behavioral adaptation in a new place. In the shelter since: originally from January 2024, then from January 2025. Relationship with people: social. Temperament: gentle towards people. Relationship with dogs: when he is reactive, he sometimes shows distant behavior towards other dogs. Relationship with cats: unknown, possible testing. Relationship with children: positive, so far we know only his relationship with adults. Registration number: P24/2025 Kennel:

Józek trafił do Azylu drugi raz. To duży pies przywołujący skojarzenia owczarka niemieckiego i rottweilera.

About Józek

What life with Józek looks like

Józek is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie in Tarnów.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Józek, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Józek?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Józek on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Józek if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Józek already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Józek isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Azyl dla Zwierząt w Tarnowie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Józek and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
