Adopt Kalle

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Primary vaccination + Rabies Hello, I'm Kalle, a lovely 9-year-old neutered male dog, with a height of 45 cm and currently weighing 25.5 kg. Of course, I am also microchipped and vaccinated! I am a funny and cheerful dog who would like to accompany his owner everywhere. At home I am very quiet, absolutely housebroken, and affectionate – unless someone visits. I am currently living with my foster family in Essen. There I have also gotten to know horses and can be in their vicinity without any problems as long as there is some distance. I have also enjoyed water sports from the first moment and am a relaxed companion on the stand-up paddleboard. Unfortunately, my veterinarian has diagnosed arthritis in my right front leg. If this is not treated or if I don't get supportive supplements in my food, it can occasionally cause me problems. There are also days when the weather doesn't suit me at all. Thanks to acupuncture, physiotherapy, and appropriate food supplements, I cope well most of the time, although I tend to move more slowly. My walks are therefore not the longest – but I take much more time for sniffing. Unfortunately, in my past in Bosnia, I didn't only have good experiences with male bipeds. Therefore, it sometimes happens that I try to nibble at men's calves. For this reason, I had to wear a muzzle for a while, which is now used less and less often. Together with my foster family and a dog trainer, I am working hard on this issue. We are also practicing that I no longer throw myself into the leash or harness when other dogs pass by me. This doesn't happen with every dog and also not with every man. I also have my own mind and can be rather stubborn at times. Unfortunately, this has led to problems with my last

About Kalle

What life with Kalle looks like

Kalle is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ankerhunde e.V. in Novi Grad.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ankerhunde e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ankerhunde e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ankerhunde e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
