adoption requirements adoption process Adopt now this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Karhu can travel directly to his final home! His story: Karhu had a stroke of luck: found alone with his siblings on a field, they were discovered in time and moved to a loving foster home. There, Karhu grows up in safety – with other dogs, cats, and people who show him how wonderful life can be. Though he feels safe there, his biggest wish is to find a family where he can stay forever. At six months old, Karhu is right in the exciting puppy stage. He is curious, playful, and friendly, loves human contact, and enjoys cuddles very much. He gets along well with his fellow animals and even with cats. Karhu is open, cheerful, and simply a charming little guy who immediately puts a smile on everyone's face. Since it's likely that Karhu has herding dog genes, his further development should be accompanied with empathy and understanding. Such dogs often show increased vigilance, independence, or territorial behavior as they age – traits that can be developed into wonderful, loyal companions with the right guidance. A rural home with a securely fenced yard, clear structures, and confident people who respect his needs would be ideal for the young Karhu. Like any puppy, Karhu now likes to test his limits and learns every day. With loving consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, he will quickly understand what is expected of him. Attending a positively working dog training class would be a great support in channeling his curiosity in the right direction and strengthening his bond with his people. Karhu is likely to grow to be medium to large – an active, clever companion for people who enjoy growing with their dog. Karhu travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He has an EU pet passport and can be adopted by anyone who has won Karhu's heart – a loyal friend for life full of energy, charm, and love. Would you like to give this wonderful little puppy a safe haven where he can develop into a strong, loved family member? Many thanks to Nessi for giving Karhu the chance at a new life with his bear-strong name! As of: 06.10. This is a young, adolescent dog.

Stand: 06.10.2025

About Karhu

What life with Karhu looks like

Karhu is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karhu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karhu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karhu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karhu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karhu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karhu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karhu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
