Karl

Pomeranian · Male · Adult · 7 years

Karl is a very special dog and will need very special adopters who are happy to work with us to slowly prepare him for the next chapter in his life, this will include having many visits to the centre and training. He is nervous about the big wide world and is looking for a peaceful life, so he will need to live with adults only, in a home with a secure, enclosed garden for Karl to potter around and relax in. If you have the love, patience and understanding to give a dog who’s had a difficult time in life the opportunity to flourish and thrive, add Karl to your favourites! Karl is a beautiful, little 7 yr old Pomeranian Crossbreed who’s had a very difficult and sheltered start to life. We’re really proud of the progress he has made so far and he’s ready to start taking the next steps towards finding his fur-ever home! Because Karl’s world has always been very small, he is very worried about new people, dogs and places. He needs to be given patience, understanding and the opportunity to come around in his own time for his loving nature to shine through! Once he’s bonded with you, he can be a sweet boy who loves to get on your lap for a snuggle or a groom! This is a side to him that will only come out after he has become more comfortable and confident around you, but it is well worth the wait!

About Karl

What life with Karl looks like

Karl is a large adult pomeranian dog waiting at Dogs Trust Leeds in Leeds.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Leeds handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Leeds will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Leeds early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
